APTA Developing Equity Research

APTA is developing two research projects that will highlight equity work being implemented across the industry. To enhance its Racial Equity Plan, APTA is drafting a report that will build on the association’s past work to understand approaches to achieving equity internally at agencies and focus on external approaches to equity, including planning and operations.

The Transit Equity Report will offer a comprehensive overview of equity practices and policies being put in place by the industry and provide a summary of the current state of practice, with case studies illustrating those practices and documenting successes.

A Policy Brief will follow the Transit Equity Report that will clearly articulate transit’s role in developing and sustaining equitable communities. The brief will show the inherent and measurable value public transportation brings to a community that is seeking to advance equity goals. This brief will serve as a resource for APTA members for when discussing transit’s equity impact with external stakeholders and to local and national legislators. Both reports will be available in late Spring.
