LGBTQ+ Pride Month: Message from APTA President & CEO Paul P. Skoutelas; Chair Michele Wong Krause

6/6/2024

APTA is proud to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month. June is a time to recognize that public transit doesn’t just carry people to a destination, it advances equity by making opportunities accessible to all.

Mobility has always been the catalyst for personal growth, independence, and the freedom to be ourselves and pursue our aspirations. There has never been a more crucial time for public transportation’s leadership in this space.

APTA’s LGBTQ+ Resource Group represents a wide span of members from across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Over the past year, we have expanded the group’s activities, awareness, and promotion to include educational programming at APTA’s mobility conferences in 2023 and 2024; networking events at all of APTA’s large conferences that have drawn crowds of more than 150+ people and multiple sponsors for each; a mission and vision statement for the group; a tour of the Pulse nightclub memorial at APTA’s EXPO in 2023; and the rollout of APTA’s “We All Belong” and “Safe Space” programs with corresponding name badge ribbons for each.

APTA’s leadership wants to recognize members of the LGBTQ+ community who have helped change policies, practices, and attitudes and APTA is proud to stand by its transit agency and business member LGBTQ+ community. APTA remains committed to promoting a fair and inclusive transit industry and a more equitable society moving into the future. If you or someone you know would like to join APTA’s LGBTQ+ Resource Group, please request to be a part of the group on APTAconnect, and we can ensure you are added.
