APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas spoke at the International Association of Public Transport’s (UITP) Policy Board Meeting in Ottawa, ON, Canada, April 24. He recognized and thanked UITP President Renée Amilcar, general manager, OC Transpo; and UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani, noting APTA’s long-standing partnership with the organization.

Skoutelas said he was grateful for the opportunity to share APTA’s advocacy approach for public transportation, alongside Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) President and CEO Marco D’Angelo.

He described how, in January, the U.S. ushered in a new Administration and new Congress and that APTA is working to advance the industry’s agenda for increased funding for public transportation. He then provided an overview of what this means for the industry, and how APTA is navigating the changing landscape.

“I have always believed that public transportation’s long-term strength is reflected in the people we serve; the skills we invest in; the values we practice; and in organizations like UITP, CUTA, and APTA,” Skoutelas concluded.
