APTA Releases New Transit Equity Report at TRANSform
10/1/2024
APTA’s new Transit Equity Report provides an overview of how public transportation agencies across the U.S. are advancing equity and ensuring that their services are benefiting all community members, especially those who historically and disproportionately have been excluded from the benefits of transit.
“APTA remains committed to championing the industry’s efforts to advance equity,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “In calling attention to those equity-forward practices and policies that are making a difference, this report aims to serve as a critical industry resource.”
The report, released at the 2024 APTA TRANSform, catalogues the current state of practice featuring public transit agencies that have adopted new planning, service, and operational practices to amplify their equity impact on communities. It highlights innovative policies, programs, and projects that are having a measurable equity impact and offers guidance to public transportation providers on fostering greater equity.
“Public transit serves as a critical lifeline, particularly for underserved populations,” said Michele Wong Krause, APTA immediate past chair. “This report demonstrates the meaningful progress our industry is making toward creating more inclusive transit systems.”
