Non-Dedicated WAV providers flex with demand changes & fill mobility gaps

Onward is an FTA Compliant mobility-on-demand service provider that supports paratransit agencies and municipalities by delivering non-dedicated, same-day WAV and assisted rideshare services.

In July, Onward launched a next generation same-day WAV program in a new partnership with Denver RTD. The service supports RTD’s Access on Demand program, which is a short notice complement to core paratransit operations. In less than 3 months Onward’s platform helped RTD deliver on over 3000 same day WAV trips with a 99.4% acceptance rate and 93% OTP.

Same-Day WAV makes the golden goose of reliability, flexibility and elasticity easily attainable. For paratransit agencies and municipalities, the operating model feels fresh, but Onward started building NEMT & ambulance networks to service health systems and PACE programs back in 2021, perfecting service delivery and partnership models along the way.

Aggregating a historically scarce resource with proprietary technology informed by over 25 years of healthcare transportation experience taught Onward to connect credentialed providers to demand, driving efficiency and economies of scale for operators, and reliable same-day service for riders.

So how does Same-Day WAV work in practice for riders? It’s quite simple. Onward receives rider enrollment data from an agency’s existing paratransit software platform. A trained Concierge team creates accounts for enrolled riders, then Riders text: “Book” to order, track and manage their WAV, Companion Ride, and rideshare trips. Simple.

Onward’s proprietary technologies: Text2Book and Paige, the company’s multi-lingual AI agent, were designed in collaboration with AARP’s AgeTech Collaborative, to remove technology and language barriers for older adults. The powerful combination simplifies the booking experience, and surfaces real time data to agencies.
