LA Metro’s Record 220 Battery-Electric Buses to be Built in Southern CA

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has approved an award of 220 AXESS EVO-BE battery-electric buses to ENC. This marks the largest ever base award of battery-electric buses by a U.S. transit agency and comes as LA Metro prepares to host the 2028 Olympics.

The buses will be built at ENC’s Jurupa Valley manufacturing facility. The site’s more than 300 employees manage all aspects of production from frame welding and paint to final assembly and testing.

John Obert, vice president of transit sales at ENC said, “Our California team will build these buses close to the communities they serve, with the quality and reliability Metro riders count on.”

LA Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins remarked that the investment “will create good-paying jobs, strengthen our local economy, and provide our riders with more reliable service for years to come.”
