NCRTD Appoints Nicholas A. Sofoul as Executive Director

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD), Española, NM, has appointed Nicholas A. Sofoul as its new executive director, succeeding Anthony Mortillaro, who is retiring after more than a decade of distinguished service leading the NCRTD Blue Bus system.

Sofoul has 15 years of transit industry experience from bus and rail systems on the east and west coast. He most recently served as director of strategic planning for the North County Transit District in San Diego County, CA. His leadership played a central role in ridership growth efforts, including the development of service strategies and community partnerships that improved customer experience and reversed pandemic-related declines. Before his work in California, Sofoul built his career at Broward County Transit in Florida.

For APTA, Sofoul is a member of the Strategic Engagement Council and serves on the Access, Commuter Rail, and Fare Collection Systems committees, among others. He is a graduate of the Leadership APTA Class of 2022.
