Deadline Soon for Comments on Hours of Service and Fatigue Risk Management

1/16/2024

FTA published an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) on Transit Worker Hours of Service and Fatigue Risk Management in the Federal Register Oct. 30 to request feedback and comments. The feedback and comment period closes Jan. 29.

Currently, there are no federal minimum standards for hours of service and fatigue risk management programs in the transit industry. Fatigue can have detrimental effect on transit worker performance, and NTSB and FTA have identified transit worker fatigue as an area of concern.

Feedback will help FTA better understand current practices, priorities, and requirements, as well as the costs and benefits of developing federal requirements. FTA will use the information received to inform future decision-making on whether and how to pursue federal regulatory action.

FTA hosted a virtual listening session on the ANPRM Dec. 5. The presentation and recording are now available.
