Community Transit Expands Zip Shuttle
12/18/2024
Community Transit, Everett, WA, has launched a pilot expansion of its on-demand Zip Shuttle rideshare service for residents in Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens. The pilot will run for 12-18 months.
“Zip Shuttle is an example of how we can rethink public transit and find creative ways to meet our communities’ needs,” said Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz. “It’s a great option for people who want to get around their community with affordable door-to-door service. But Zip can also help you get out of your community by connecting you with buses that bring you to Link light rail so you can travel to downtown Seattle and beyond.”
Passengers can book trips by phone or through an app and can pay using their ORCA card. Vehicles are outfitted with ramps and drivers are trained to assist riders of all abilities. Zip also offers bike racks and child car seats for use.
Community Transit partnered closely with residents in Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens to design the expanded service and tailor it to each community. In Darrington, the Zip service area extends onto the Sauk-Siuattle reservation in Skagit County. During the pilot, the agency will gather feedback to further improve the service for residents in each community.
