APTA, Members Ask for $90 Million for Ferry Grant Program

5/2/2024

This week, APTA advocated for Members of the House Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Committee on Appropriations, to provide $90 million for FTA’s Passenger Ferry Grant Program for FY25.

APTA also engaged with more than a dozen of its members, asking them to contact their Members of Congress to support the Garamendi-Malliotakis letter in support of passenger ferries. Congress has historically underfunded this program, which provides competitive grants to expand and improve public ferry service in states and eligible U.S. territories.

APTA members also requested that the subcommittee include bill language to ensure that all rural areas designated by the U.S. Census Bureau are eligible to apply for the Ferry Service for Rural Communities Program, and that they also include report language clarifying that grantmaking for the Ferry Service for Rural Communities Program and the Electric or Low-Emitting Ferry Pilot Program.
